What A Catch

Wow ladies. There were so many fabulous layouts in the gallery! Here are three layouts that caught my eye.

First, this layout by mamadonald is SO eye-catching. I love the cool blue colors of the papers and embellishments. It really gives you a feeling of winter. I also love how she layered the flowers and snowflakes. The lace and bling are a perfect touch as well. But most of all, what an ADORABLE picture!!!Second, is this super, fun layout by prittb. What a terrific boy pate. I love the fun characters on the patterned paper. I also love how she tilted one piece of patterned paper. It really draws your eye around the whole layout. The title in the cloud is an adorable touch. I especially love all the bright, fun colors.
Finally, who can resist this lovable layout by scrapMel. I love the design she used. What a great way to include so many pictures of such a sweetie! I love the soft colors with the pop of red. It is such a clean, simple, yet stunning, layout!
Thanks for all the inspiration ladies!

February Sketch Idea (with sample layout)

by Nathalie

Since I had multiple photos of my subject that I wanted to use, I went to Pagemaps and found this great sketch (from the December 2009 newsletter) that incorporated 5 photos:

As you can see below, other than adding a frame around my page, I stayed pretty close to the sketch:

Supplies: Nikki Sivils brand new Flaming Butterfly and Bella Blue and Oscar Too collections, Nikki Sivils corduroy brads, Heidi Swapp chipboard alphas, label maker, EK Success border punch, misc ribbons.

And if I inspired you to use this sketch, make sure to share your page by linking us here or by adding it to the TTT User Gallery! I'll be back next month to share a page with step by step instructions. Until then, Happy scrapping!

Technique--Using Background Stamps by Chrystal Riddell

You may have seen background stamps and wondered, "What in the the world do I do with this?" or "Why would I want to stamp a big patterned square?" You might not have even known it was considered a "background stamp!" This is one of my favorite type of stamps to use because they are the most versatile and fun. They are the type of papercrafting goodie that is meant to be played with and will inspire your creativity. I personally love the Close To My Heart Acrylix the best; each set comes with four different patterns. This makes the possibilities endless! I will be using the houndstooth background from the new "Noted Backgrounds" set.

For this first example, I stamped the image 3 different times using three different colored inks, then used my star to punch them out. What a great way to make a low-cost embellishment!

Have you ever set your project aside because you needed just a little bit of coordinating patterned paper or didn't have the right background sheet to finish the page? Background stamps to the rescue! Here, I used the same color ink as the cardstock, so I could have a subtle tone-on-tone pattern. I use this the most as the base for my pages when they need just a little extra something. Don't worry about the edges of the stamp lining up exactly. Chances are, it will be covered by photos and other papers, but if you are a perfectionist like me, this is where the clear stamps come in handy!

For this last example, I used a Making Memories chipboard element and stamped directly on it. If the edges aren't lining up exactly, use a piece of scrap paper to mask off the part you don't want to stamp over twice, I had an "oops" here, so I covered it with a heart embellishment. Remember, there are no mistakes in scrapbooking!

Step by Step

This month's step by step layout features a page highlighting a large die cut or sticker. So first things first gather your 2 4x6 photos and favorite matching die cut. Or create one using a die cut machine like I did here with my Minnie Mouse.

Supplies:
4 sheets different colors cardstock (2 can be scraps)
2 4x6 photos
1 strip patterned paper
1 large die cut or sticker

Steps:
  1. Cut one sheet cardstock to 11.5"x 11.5". Attach it to the 12x12 sheet leaving a border all around. Stitch around edges or draw stitches with a pen.
  2. Add a 6x12" piece of patterned paper across your layout horizontally in the middle. Then add a 4x12" piece of cardstock across the right side of your layout vertically. Stitch edges if desired.
  3. Mount your 2 photos on coordinating cardstock cutting the horizontal one down to 4x3". Add them to your layout with the large one slightly overlapping the vertical piece of cardstock. Then add your die cut overlapping the bottom right hand corner of the large photo. Use pop dots for extra dimension!
  4. Add a title under the large photo and an extra large photo corner in the top left hand corner.
  5. Add flowers or other little embellishments along the left edge of the large photo. Add a few rhinestones or embellish as you like.
  6. Type your journaling and cut into small strips. Adhere them to the right of your die cut.
  7. Walla your done!
